The TSC has already calculated preliminary scores for shortlisted applicants, a process hinging on the Year of Graduation and the strength of academic papers.

The following sample marking scheme provides a glimpse into the criteria that will determine an applicant’s success during the interview:

All the applicants shall be invited for the verification of documents.

The applicants shall be informed of the interview venue, date and time through SMS at least seven (7) days from the date of the interviews.

In the event of a tie in the ranking, consideration for selection shall be determined in the following order:

  1. Length of stay since graduation;
  2. Strength of academic and professional certificates.

N/B: If applicants tie at PTE/DPTE Upgrade Certificate points, aggregate KCSE grades or its equivalent shall be considered.

Graduate Teachers (Qualifications):

  • Minimum KCSE mean grade of C+
  • C+ in each of the two teaching subjects or two principles and one subsidiary pass at A Level
  • Bachelor of Education Degree with two teaching subjects
  • Bachelor of Science or Arts Degree plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) with two teaching subjects
  • Bachelor of Science with Education/Bachelor of Arts with Education with two teaching subjects
  • Additional eligibility criteria for specific cases

Diploma Teachers (Qualifications):

  • Minimum KCSE mean grade of C+
  • Diploma in Education from a recognized Teacher Training Institution
  • Additional eligibility criteria for specific cases

Technical Teachers (Qualifications):

  • Minimum KCSE mean grade of C+
  • Bachelor of Education Technology (Bed TECH) or relevant technical qualification
  • Diploma in Technical Teacher Education from Kenya Technical Teachers College (KTTC) or a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (GDE) from a recognized University
  • Further eligibility criteria for specific subjects

Key Considerations for All Applicants:

  • Applicants must have studied the two teaching subjects at KCSE
  • Graduate Teachers should have studied a minimum of eight (8) course units in each teaching subject
  • Relevant enhancement certificates/transcripts are considered
  • Previous contract employees with enhanced qualifications are eligible to reapply

  • Computer Studies applicants must have completed a course on teaching methods
  • Special Needs Education applicants – KSL and Braille are considered as teaching subjects
