Hey there, future educators of Kenya! Guess what? We have some exciting news just for you.
Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has launched a whopping 13,439 slots for diploma teacher training courses.
Yup, you heard it right. So, if you’ve been dreaming of molding the next generation of Kenyans, this is your golden ticket.
Just imagine walking into one of the 32 public teacher training centers spread across the country, ready to embark on your educational journey.
It sounds amazing, right?
Well, there’s a small catch. You must have achieved at least a C (plain) grade in your Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s on offer:
- 11,358 slots for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) program
- 2,081 slots for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) course
These courses are ripe and ready for all qualified KCSE certificate holders, including non-Kenyan citizens who took the exam in 2022 or earlier.
In the words of KUCCPS CEO Alice Wahome, “This opportunity is an amazing one for all those who qualify.” So, gear up, folks.
The online application portal will remain open until July 28, 2023.
Now, if you’re particularly keen on the DPTE program, be aware that it’s a replacement for the abolished P1 Training Course.
And of course, you’ll need to understand the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and DPTE requirements before enrolling:
- Be a Kenyan citizen
- Hold a PTE Certificate (P1 certificate) from KNEC or,
- Hold a Bachelors of Education degree (Primary education) from a government-recognized university (with 2 teaching subjects).
Also, don’t forget to register with the TSC and have a TSC number as per TSC Act Cap 212, Section 23(1).
No worries if you don’t have a physical TSC registration certificate yet.
You can attach a printout of your TSC number application with a verified status.
Things are getting competitive out there. So, better your grades in college and shine during your teaching practice. It just might give you the edge you need.
Did you know that new primary school teachers are now being employed under job grade B5 and not the older job group G?
Yep, the P1 certificate has been replaced with a Diploma Training program for primary school teachers.
And the job groups? They’ve been renamed C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5 in that order.
Don’t fret if you still have questions. We’ve covered some frequently asked ones below:
When will TSC employ new teachers? They employ new teachers every year, with part of the recruitment exercises filling positions left vacant through natural attrition.
Can I apply online? Absolutely! The TSC online teachers recruitment portal is always available.
What is the age limit for TSC employment? Typically, it’s 45 years, but TSC sometimes hires those over 45 years on contract terms.
Just remember, you’re about to embark on one of the most noble journeys – shaping the future of Kenya. Let’s grab this opportunity and make a difference together.
